Sustainability in practice: Bee life pulsates on the roof of the NORDCITY parking house

When a city is said, many of us are equated with cars, noise and smog. But the reality is often surprising — especially when it comes to air quality. Modern cities that invest in green spaces, green transportation and sustainable solutions can offer surprisingly healthy environments.

Zilina is also proof that the urbanized environment does not have to be inhospitable. Thanks to parks, tree plantations, flower plantings and the restriction of chemical spraying, conditions are created in the city that are favorable not only for humans, but also for insects, especially bees.

Did you know that the city is an ideal home for bees?

It may sound surprising, but it is the urban environment that offers bees exceptionally suitable living conditions. Unlike intensive agriculture, pesticides are not used in the city, which is a common cause of bee colony collapse.

At NORDCITY Žilina we are  aware also of the importance of biodiversity and sustainability. That is why we have placed bee hives on the roof of our parking house, where we take care of a healthy and stable environment for these irreplaceable pollinators. Here, bees find a rich variety of plants and a safe place to live.

City honey from NORDCITY

In collaboration with Viktor from Lion's Pitswe installed on the roof of the Nordcity parking building a beehive with more than 150,000 bees. Every day more than 6,000 new bees. These bees collect nectar from a variety of urban plants, resulting in exceptionally tasty and pure urban honey — right in the heart of Žilina.

The world of bees has also been experienced live by children from primary school

Thanks to Viktor, we organized an educational excursionfor primary school children, during which they could learn about thefascinating life of bees up close, safely, and with expert interpretation.
